about

P1040751I am a graduate of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky, and a student in the MFA in Creative Writing program at Spalding University in Louisville. I live with my husband Caleb in Southwest Michigan, where I am an adjunct instructor for the Lake Michigan College English department.

I post writing and videos on my blog, ibelonginabook.wordpress.com. Most of the entries are pertaining to my two favorite things: books and writing! You can also check out my Goodreads page to see what I’m reading now.

My writing crosses several genres. In my portfolio, you can find links to my published creative nonfiction essays and a few published poems, as well as links to blogs and journals where I am or have been a writer or editor, including Forest for the Trees, which is a journal of young adult writing. My passion, however, is writing fiction for children and young adults. Currently, I am seeking representation for FLEDGE, a middle-grade novel set in northern Michigan.

If you are interested in creative writing but don’t know where to begin learning about the craft, contact me through my website! I can work with you to personalize a schedule and fee that work for you. I also offer help with academic writing, reading tutoring, and manuscript reviews.

My other passions are hiking, camping, exploring new places, gardening, and my crazy beagle mix Juliet O’Haira.
