FLEDGE follows Pieter Peerenboom, his brother Will, and their new friend Brook through the woods of Northern Michigan. In an adventure that is Hoot meets the Bridge to Terebithia, Pieter stumbles upon an abandoned lodge, looks for a lost dog, and learns an endangered bird, all while learning what it means to be a kid, and, when the time comes, how to grow up. Pieter wants nothing more than to play in the woods all day, every day, all summer long. In the woods, he is a wise and powerful Wizard, ruler of all he sees, and foe of the dragon who lives in the “castle” treetops. But at home, Pieter is just a twelve-year-old boy who helps his father with work in the cherry orchard. Pieter must learn to conquer both the dragon in the woods and the dragons in his own life.
